The USA isn't the biggest producer of fine gems compared to other places around the world, but the Oregon Opal, and Sunstone are two highly notable exceptions. This Oregon Opal came from Opal Butte, which actually is famous for producing the finest Opals ever found in Oregon or the USA. They are also as good or better than Fire Opals anywhere on the planet. The problem is that this incredible mine closed about 20 years ago and the material was mined out, so these stones have become quite rare, and as of today no location in Oregon has been able to duplicate their quality. This particular Oval is so clean that you can read a newspaper through it, so the word opaque virtually doesn't apply. This stone is a calibrated 16 X 12 mm so it will fit into any pre-made Gold or Silver setting. That saves money on custom work, and our price for the stone is excellent. It is really beautiful.
